The recent trend of the Marathi film industry is making movies on Hindu Religions. Most of these movies are made on various religious festivals like Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Bhai Beej and Raksha Bandhan. Elizabeth Ekadashi is another movie which has been made on Hindu Faiths. This movie was based on one of the most important events in Hindu calendar year called "The Holy Month Of Sawan". This month is celebrated like a festival in Maharashtra and some other regions around India by people who still follow this religion. During this months, people generally fast for 31 days to purify themselves before holy period of Navratri began which takes up next 30 days. The movie revolves around the story of Paramahamsa who has started a crusade to free people from superstitions and help them to understand the secret behind the birth and death of all things. This movie was shot in Marathi and English languages with simultaneous playback. The crew members were mainly from Pune and Kolhapur (Maharashtra). Self financing this project from start to finish. The movie was released on 9 August 2009 to a decent response from audience around Maharashtra . The movie received positive response from critics but at the box office it's been a failure. The film had a very bad run at box office. The story revolves around the life and teachings of Narasingha, a descendant of Lord Rama and also as a form of protest against superstitions prevalent in Indian society. Though the movie is not about religion it's about education and keeping people away from superstitions.The Marathi version of the movie was released on 9 August 2009 to a decent response from audience around Maharashtra. The movie received positive review from critics but At The Box Office it's been a failure . The film company: 'Tashan', which has produced this movie had very high budget for this project . So the makers choose to take the movie for Singe Screening in all major cities of Maharashtra. Due to this reason, the film had a very bad run at box office. The movie got a lot of publicity from press and media which made a good impact on audience too . the movie got a lot of positive reviews from Marathi Newspaper & Marathi Magazines. After numerous praises from critics, Girija Joshi came out with her review on Elizabeth Ekadashi in which she praised it for being ahead of its time and that no other film has been made on this topic . She also added that if people liked this film, then it will give them the feeling of watching a Hollywood film. The movie is widely televised on Zee Marathi Channel. "Elizabeth Ekadashi" has been nominated for the following awards since its release.
